Copyright and Takedown

Box Seats respects the rights of film makers, broadcasters and other rights holders. This page explains where our free on-demand library comes from, how to report a title you believe should not be there, and the credits we owe under the licences we rely on.

Where the free on-demand library comes from

The free classic movies and series that come with our Grand Stand plan are taken from the Internet Archive. We only list titles that the uploader has marked as public domain or released under a Creative Commons licence that allows commercial use, and whose film or programme was first released in 1975 or earlier. A mark on the Internet Archive is not a guarantee, so we also remove any title the moment a rights holder shows us it should not be listed.

Report an infringement

If you own, or act for the owner of, a copyright you believe is infringed by something available on Box Seats, email helpdesk@boxseats.tv with the subject line Copyright notice, or use our contact form. Please include:

  • the title, and where in the Box Seats app or on this website it appears;
  • a description of the work you own and how you can show it (a registration, a licence, or a link to the original);
  • your name, address, phone number and email address;
  • a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law;
  • a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner; and
  • your signature, which may be typed.

We acknowledge notices within two business days. While we assess a notice we remove the title from view, and we remove it permanently if the claim is sound. We act on notices in line with section 77 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 and, for rights holders elsewhere, the equivalent notice-and-takedown rules of their country. If a title was removed by mistake, you may reply with a counter-notice explaining why, and we will review it. We end the accounts of customers who repeatedly infringe.

Artwork on this site

The movie and series posters and the live-TV scene images on our home page are original artwork generated for Box Seats with AI (Google Gemini) for fictional titles and scenes. They are not taken from any film, series, broadcaster or photograph, and show no real people.
